Larger
than life
Artist Jason Ruffell graduated
from Sheffield Hallam University with a degree in 3D
Design, specialising in Metalwork and Jewelry, and has
gone on to receive critical acclaim for his unique pencil-
based interruptions of the human form.
Over recent years, Jason has
developed his work by exploring the human structure
to produce stunning pieces based on abstract figures
of muscle form, movement and multiple images.
Producing stunning pieces that
are often life size or larger, Jason works extensively
in pencil, believing that the direct ‘form of
mark making’ that connects him to his work is
the backbone that underpins all forms of artistic expression.
A widely published photographer,
Jason is interested in going back to photography basics.
Although he works in digital and film, Jason also produces
work using a pinhole camera - literally a little wooden
box with a hole in it - which is the equivalent of drawing
in the photographic world with no lenses or expensive
gizmos to get in the way.
This unique approach makes Jason
a genuinely original artist and has led to his work
being shown in a number of key exhibitions.
